Section 1: About the Pre-Admission Content Test (PACT)

This manual is designed to help you prepare for a content examination also known as Pre-Admission Content Test (PACT). Its purpose is to familiarize yourself with the competencies to be tested and exam item formats.

A PACT can be used to obtain admission into a Texas Educator Preparation Program (EPP) approved by the State Board for Educator Certification. Taking a PACT does not ensure admittance into a program, and is not the final content pedagogy exam required for standard certification. EPPs may have additional entrance requirements. Taking a PACT is also a requirement for candidates participating in the intensive pre-service (IPS) route or pursuing a teaching assignment at some Texas charter schools.

Who Can Take PACT?

Individuals who hold a bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university or are scheduled to receive a bachelor's degree are allowed to take a PACT content exam for purposes of admission into an alternative certification or university post baccalaureate educator preparation program. More information about testing eligibility requirements is available on the Pre-Admission Content Test (PACT) page.
